Yes. A well-made generic (compatible) brush head that fits your Sonicare model correctly is safe to use and won't harm the handle. The main things to watch are a proper fit, soft end-rounded bristles, and knowing that Philips may not cover warranty claims tied to non-Philips heads.
Brand-name heads are expensive, so it's natural to wonder whether the cheaper ones are a risk. Here's what actually matters.
What makes a compatible head safe
A correct fit. The head should click on firmly and not wobble. A loose head doesn't pass the vibration through properly and cleans worse.
Soft, end-rounded bristles. Rough or hard bristles can wear enamel and irritate gums. The American Dental Association recommends soft bristles.
A company you can reach. If something's wrong, you want someone who will replace it or refund you.
Do Sonicare brush heads fit all models?
No. Most current Sonicare handles use a click-on system, while older Essence models used a screw-on head, and Philips One uses its own head.
Will it damage my handle?
A head designed for your handle type won't damage it. Our bamboo Sonicare-compatible heads are made for the "click-on" Sonicare handles, such as DiamondClean, EasyClean, ExpertClean, FlexCare, ProtectiveClean and the standard Power Toothbrush. They don't fit older screw-on Essence models or Sonicare for Kids.
A small gap between the head and the handle is normal on click-on Sonicare models and doesn't affect cleaning.

What about the warranty?
To be upfront, compatible heads aren't made by Philips. Like any third-party accessory, Philips may not cover a warranty claim related to a non-Philips head. Used correctly, a good compatible head shouldn't cause a problem, but it's worth knowing before you switch.
How they compare on cleaning
Most of the cleaning comes from the handle's vibration and your technique, meaning two minutes, gentle pressure and every surface. A compatible head with soft bristles passes that vibration through the same way. Our customers consistently tell us they clean as well as the originals.

Picking the right one
Check the model number on your handle, then pick the matching head. We also make heads for Philips One, Oral-B, AquaSonic, Gleem and Laifen. Each one fits only its own brand. Not sure? See why a head might not fit.
Replace any head every three months, the same interval Philips recommends. Curious how much plastic that saves over a year? Try our plastic calculator.
Quick answers
Do compatible heads work with the handle's pressure sensor and timer?
The timer and pressure sensor are in the handle, so they keep working. Features that rely on the RFID chip in Philips BrushSync heads, like automatic mode pairing and replacement reminders, won't work with a non-Philips head.
How often should I replace a Sonicare head?
Philips recommends every three months, or sooner if the bristles fray.
Are bamboo heads hygienic?
Yes. Rinse the head after brushing and let it dry upright. Don't leave it sitting in water.
Are the bristles biodegradable?
Not yet. They're a castor-bean-based nylon. The bamboo body is compostable once you remove the bristles.
Can I use one head for the whole family?
No. Like any toothbrush, each person should have their own head.
